The Lake County Health Department supports the current CDC and Indiana Department of Health COVID control guidelines. We strongly recommend that all schools follow the masking, contact tracing and quarantining practices described in the guidelines.
There has been a significant increase in COVID positivity during the past few weeks across all of Lake County along with increases in ER visits and hospitalizations. These increases have caused our County color code advisory to change from blue to yellow.
At this time in Indiana 90% of the tests for COVID virus indicate the highly transmissible Delta variant. The Regenstrief information from the Richard Fairbanks School of Public Health predicts further increases in the coming weeks.
Masking in schools reduces the risk of the COVID virus transmission between students, staff and family members thereby allowing the students to participate in uninterrupted in person learning.
Due to increase of COVID cases, starting on Sept. 7th, 2021, immunizations will be administered by appointment only.
Free COVID-19 testing at Polk Elementary School in Lake Station each Tuesday though Saturday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
The Lake County Health Department has been receiving complaints from parents of children attending schools within our jurisdiction concerning the quarantining of unmasked close contact children who have been exposed to children infected with the COVID virus.
